What are some things to look for when choosing a web hosting company?
1 - The reliability and speed of access
Not only must be fast and reliable must ensure uptime known as UPTIME. Look for a minimum uptime of 99%. In fact, even 99% is too low - it really should look for a guarantee 99.5% uptime or better.
2 - Data Transfer (Traffic / Bandwidth)
Data transfer (sometimes loosely referred to as "traffic" or "bandwidth") is the amount of bytes transferred from your site visitors when browsing your site or perform an operation as downloading email, FTP transactions, etc.
Do not believe web hosting companies that advertise "unlimited data transfer." This service must pay the hosting company, and if you consume a lot of it, I assure you that you do not pay for this cost.
A good company will offer plans that enable scalability, do not forget that over time will require more space and more bandwidth.
3 - Disk Space
Similarly, there are companies that offer "unlimited space", be careful with these companies, it is very simple to realize that someone has to pay this.
Most sites need less than 10 MB of web space, so even if they have a host that offers plans with 200 MB or 500 MB (or "unlimited space"), it is unlikely that the use of that space so do not let the gigabyte of space they offer, is a factor when comparing with other web hosting companies.
4 - Technical Support / Technical Support
You will be surprised that there are companies that take days to answer a very simple, then how do you think will give you the support you need when you grow customer?.
Try emailing at midnight and Saturday nights, Sunday mornings, etc. See how long it takes responder.Además speed of responses, check if you are technically competent. Do not want to subscribe to a web host that is run by a group of vendors who can only sell and do not solve the problems.
5 - SSL (secure server) Shopping Cart
If you're planning on doing any business through your website, you need to install a SSL certificate. These facilities normally involve a package of higher prices or charges.
6 - Email, Autoresponders, POP3, mail forwarding
If you have your own site, you probably want to have email addresses at your domain, as ventas@tudominio.com.
Does the web hosting plan supports this option? Is it allowed to have a catch-all email account that makes any email address in your account reaches this domain? Can you set an email automatically to respond to the sender with a preset message (auto answer)? Can I retrieve e-mail with your email software?
7 - Control Panel
A control panel allows you to manage different aspects of your web hosting account. Normally, at least, will allow you to do things like add, delete and manage email addresses and change passwords for your account. No contraré the services of a host where I have to go through their technical support each time you want to change a password or add / delete an email account. These are common tasks are maintenance tasks that every webmaster performs time and time again, and would be a big hassle if you have to wait for technical support to make the changes for you.
